 Mango Introduction

A mango is a stone fruit produced from numerous species of tropical trees belonging to the flowering plant genus Mangifera, cultivated mostly for their edible fruit. Most of these species are found in nature as wild mangoes. The genus belongs to the cashew family Anacardiaceae. Mangoes are native to South Asia, from where the “common mango” or “Indian mango”, Mangifera indica, has been distributed worldwide to become one of the most widely cultivated fruits in the tropics. It is said that an old woman named Fazli Bibi lived in an ancient factory in Gaur which was destroyed by the independent sultans. There was a mango tree in the yard of his house. Fazli took great care of this tree. The fakirs or monks of the area used to get a share of that mango.

 রাজশাহী বিখ্যাত কালেক্টর রাজভেনশ একবার ফজলি বিবির বাড়ির কাছে ক্যাম্প স্থাপন করেছিলেন। তার আগমনের খবর শুনে ফজলি বিবি তার সাথে আমের সাথে দেখা করলেন। সেই আম খাওয়ার পর রাজভেনশা খুব তৃপ্ত হলেন। সেই নামের নাম জানতে চাই। কিন্তু ইংরেজী না বুঝে ফজলি বিবি 'নাম' শুনেই তার নাম বলেছিলেন। সেই থেকে এই আমের নাম 'ফজলি'।
